Juneteenth and The Illusion of Progress

As we conclude our observation of Juneteenth, remember:

1) There were areas throughout the south where Black folks didn't find out that slavery had ended
until they got draft notices for WWI.

2) Civil and 'quality of life' law were introduced whereby Black males could go to prison work farms for years for such crimes as having less then a nickel on their person, etc.

3) The private prisons/ industrial prison complex is a culmination of both slavery and the work farm model.

4) This society is designed so that every male of color, regardless of social or economic background, will see the inside of a jail cell at least once. If you don't believe me, ask Dr. Henry Louis Gates.
