MIDNIGHT GROOVE RECORDINGS (MGR) is a boutique record label specializing in Afrobeat, House Music, Soul & Jazz. Formed in 1989 by Mwalim DaPhunkee Professor, the label rode into existence on the acid jazz wave of the early 1990s, with the release “HER GROOVE”. Gaining club attention in the USA and UK, as well as chart positions on the Dance Music Report and the Underground Charts, the label acquired an international distribution deal in 1990 with MTI Distributors. With sporadic releases, the label has been able to garner an impressive track record of underground and club hit records as well as winning several regional, national and international music awards.

In 2008, Midnight Groove Recordings became an imprint under Liberation Multimedia, LLC.
